Booth says the buildings on Pembroke St are 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 storied, worse at the north end than the south ....

I have looked at several old maps of the area and none have Upper Pembroke St marked, however Bemerton, which as I said is parallel to Pembroke, has the northern part of the Street marked as "Upper" on several maps, so presumably you could expect the northern part of Pembroke St to be Upper Pembroke St.

So, I'm afraid there is nothing whatsoever original in the housing on this street today. Sadly ....

I forgot to mention that Pembroke St ran from Gifford Street in the north to Bingfield St. The continuation of the road south of Bingfield St was called William Street North. This is where Pembroke Avenue is today.

Thanks to everyone for their interesting observations about my query.

Obviously the original house doesnt exist so I wont be able to get a photo of it for my history.

The servant mentioned was the sister of the Wife Euphemia - poor girl at 11 years old to be a servant.

Thanks  Gay

I suspected she was related due to having the same birth place as Euphemia.  :)
