The missing Edwards
« on: Monday 31 March 14 12:40 BST (UK) »
Edward Stanton b1784 Heckington Lincs married Susannah Eatherds (Edwards) (1801-before 1851), and along with his son, also Edward (1819-1854), daughter in law (Ann Waters b Grantham 1822) and grandson, yes, you guessed a third Edward b Brighton 1843 seem to be missing from the 1851 census. Edward Senior died in St, Pancras in 1856, and his son Edward is believed to have died in 1854, also in St. Pancras, but the age on his death certificate does not fit! Edward 1819 had died prior to 1861, and his son (b1843) was serving as a "First class boy" on HMS Terror in the West Indies in 1861. His widow Ann has also been found in 1861 lodging in St. Pancras with Samuel Miles and family, she is shown blind, but where were they all in 1851? The other question is was Edward b1819 still living in 1856 on his father's death. Help please.

Hi,

On the 1841 census is your Edward Stanton b.1784 still in Lincolnshire?  I am asking because he is still in Spalding on the 1851 transcribed as Thornton age 67 born Heckington wife transcribed as Lucy but it could be Susy  :-\ aged 50,  HO107/2096 Folio 524 page 3.  See what you think.

Yes, that's them thanks, the address should be Vine St. I think. Not surprised the transcriber got this as Thornton; some of the worst writing I have seen after the 16th century, looks neat but difficult to decypher.

Two further questions which someone might be able to help with please?
1) The names of local newspapers circulating in the King's Cross/St. Pancras and Bethnal Green areas of London between 1850 and 1860
2) Where is a person who died in Bethnal Green in 1854 likely to have been buried?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi,

The only burials I can see in 1854 was Edward Stanton of Drapers Place aged 52 on 3rd April at St. Pancras  and one 2 days old in Bermondsey.  Sorry, I don`t know about the one who died in Bethnal Green.

Thanks for that. The one in question was born in 1822 in Bethnal Green and died in 1854. We are almost certain that he is not the one we are looking for.
