John Paterson a mason
« on: Monday 08 December 14 02:45 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the parents of the following siblings

Hugh Paterson born c1775 (married Jean Reid and died in 1832)
Isabella Paterson born c1773 (married Alexander Dick and died in 1843)

I know their father is John Paterson a mason, but can't work out their parents.

I have a marriage of John Paterson a mason to Janet Hetherwick/Hedderwick in 1771, but can't find any children born to them so can't confirm if this could be there parents.

Any suggestions/help?

there is also a Walter Paterson (a mason) who married Helen Howden in 1788 and had a son John Paterson (also a mason) b1789

Walter could be another sibling to Hugh and Isabella. I know Walter became a burgess the day before Hugh.

In which parish(es) did they marry, have their families, and die? In which parish were the potential parents married?

My gggg gfather was Hugh Paterson the mason.
I have never been able to find his parents, so I'm curious about your findings regarding his father John.
Cheers,
Milton.

I have Hugh Paterson, son of James Paterson and Margaret Baillie, born 7 February 1766 at Corstorphin Ridge, parish of Cramond.

He was a weaver, moved to Larbert, married first Jean Thomson and second Ann Miller, and died, probably in Larbert, between 1851 and 1854.

He had a brother James, born 1771, but I know nothing more about this James.

It's a long shot, but could there be a connection with your Hugh Paterson?

Impossible to say if they are related. I suspect my branch have always been stonemasons.
My Hugh married Jane Reid. Their daughter Jane married David Calder also a mason, and emigrated to New Zealand.
Cheers.

Almost certainly impossible, but stranger things have happened.

I am going on a lead here Hello Bigdadfrog, I had just joined here and posted a link asking if anyone has a link to a John Paterson living at around 1770 and would you believe my ancestry goes back to the surname as a witness to my ancestry a John Paterson at around 1770. Do we have a connection ? Oh and just to add a further situation I am connected to the surname Reid :)
