John Norman and Sarah Ann Daniels
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 08:15 BST (UK) »
I originally posted this in Lancashire, but it might have a better chance here. I am looking for my mother's family. Her grandparents were John Norman and Sarah Ann Daniels, originally from Warrington, Lancashire. They moved to London about 1909. Their children were James, Martha, Edward, John (my grandfather), William and Walter (who both died in infancy), Harry, and Rose (born in Walthamstow). Children of these children would be my mother's cousins. I would love to make contact (privately of course).

Did you look in freebmd for marriages/deaths for the "children", as suggested?

Also, did James Norman leave a Will? They can be great for finding married names of daughters!

Thank you lizdb
Yes, I am in the process of looking up BMDs, but of course it's tricky narrowing them down to the right ones... next time ancestry does a free weekend I might see what parish registers I can find for them. I thought I would cast the line again to see what other ideas people might add. :)

If you want Parish Registers for Essex, you are best using Essex Ancestors on the SEAX site.
You do have to pay a subscription, but can do so just for a day or a week, I believe.

Or better still, go to the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford

Not sure Ancestry has much in tbe way of Essex PRs.

Just to get an idea of ages -
James bn approx 1898
Martha approx 1899
Edward approx 1901
John approx 1903
Harry approx 1909
Rose approx 1911

Likely marriage for Martha-
Jul/Aug/Sep 1922
West Ham
Ref 4a. 595
Martha Norman / John V H Jenner

You can use freebmd to search for any Jenner children with mums maiden name Norman. I cant put any names on here as they may still be alive.

Death
March 1958
Epping
Ref 5a 91
Martha Jenner
Age 58

And, from Probate indexes-

Martha Jenner of 70 Westfield Road Dagenham Essex (wife of John Victor Horace Jenner) died 8 Jan 1958 at 126 Blackbush Springs Harlow Essex Administration to John Victor Horace Jenner carpenter

So, no Will, as it is Admin not Probate.

But you now have a home address for them in 1958. I wonder if the address she died at was ber daughters?

Given the names of John's children this entry in 1891 looks very much a possible.Still in Warrington John is given as the son of a James and Martha Norman.

lizdb - thank you - that's very helpful. Likely marriages is a start.

William - that sounds right. :) I have a basic tree for the older generations, but I have quite a brick wall for the more recent names. My mum basically lost contact with both sides of her family at a young age, and she remembers very little, so I have a big hole in my family story. Oh and I should mention I am in Australia, so a visit to local registries is out of the question... :P
