I am trying to trace the parents and siblings of my great grandfather John Gaughan who was born in Ireland about 1802, but I do not know in which parish or county he was born. He enlisted in the East India company army in July 1826 at althone, westmeath age 24, prior to this he was a labourer in the parish of kilkeevin, roscommon county. He sailed from chatham, england to madras india arriving jan 1827 and got married in 1848 bangalore, india where he settled and died in 1873.
