looking for Edward Mcallister 1842
« on: Monday 27 October 14 13:52 GMT (UK) »
HI
I am looking the birth record for a Edward McAllister born around 1842 , around Glasgow I think  His parents were David Mcallister (coal miner ) and Agnes  McAllister or Pollock nee Cross married 1835 in Glasgow  He is on the 1851 census as 9yrs old

I have found other family records but not Edwards birth record.  I am fairly new to this researching and wonder what other avenues I can try.

thanks
Jim cameron

Hello & welcome
Well there's nothing jumping off the pages for any of the McAllister children even using variants.
Although they married in the Established Church the children may have been Baptised as non-conformists.
You could try searching in Scottish non-conformist records in & around Glasgow.

Could you post the reference to the 1851 census, please?
The only possibility I can see is Edward aged 9 with mother Agnes aged 32 and what presumably is her second husband, Hugh McGregor aged 24 (obviously not the father of the children, one of whom is called David).

With so many surnames and husbands for Agnes, it may well be worth looking for Edward with a different surname.
Finding David and Agnes in 1841 might be helpful.
