Burton Upon Trent, Address Enquiry
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 21:35 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

The address 145, Belvedere Road, Burton On Trent appears as the place of death on two family members burial records in 1925 & 1943 respectively. The home address for the family was 6, Cricket Field, Main Street, Newhall.

My question is what was/is at 145, Belvedere Road, Burton On Trent? A hospital? A nursing Home? Or something completely different?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi CaroleW,

Many thanks for your reply & the link, much appreciated.

As you say, it is the Workhouse. Although it is possible that they died in the Infirmary there, as I am aware that these places may have been the nearest/only place where medical care was available.

My thanks again.

Kind regards

David

Yes - that's right.  My great grandparents both died in the Liverpool WH infirmary.  I believe you had to pay the doctor for each home visit which could become impossible if the illness was severe so people in need of regular care were admitted to the WH infirmary

Hi David

The address was certainly the Workhouse but became the Burton on Trent hospital. When my grandfather's older brother, William NORTON, died there in 1919 it was already known as the Burton Infirmary.
