Is there an online index to search for wills prior to 1858. I'm looking for a will for a Robert Askew died 1844 Guisborough, Yorks

This covers wills proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury before 1858.  Unfortunately your Robert is not there.

I suggest you try the records of the Preogative Court of York which are at the Borthwick Institute in York.  I don't think there is any online index for these.
