Agnes Wicks two photo taken around 1900s Middlesbrough or Sunderland
« on: Monday 10 November 14 16:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I wonder if anyone is up for a challenge

Agnes Wicks ( her name on the back of the photos ) two photos taken around 1900s Middlesbrough or Sunderland, not sure if Wicks is her married name or Birth name, the photos came from a tin in my grandmother house, Ethel may walker nee wicks 1893 birth sunderland but the family came from Middlesbrough Ethels father Charley Wicks plus siblings were all born in Middlesbrough her grandfather George Wicks came from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, died in Middlesbrough 1904 ) . I did post these photos before about a year ago but hand not spotted the name. Agnes looks to be around 20 -30 mark.
looks like she married she has a ring on her finger. birth around 1870 - 1880 if the photo was taken around 1900 - 1910.

Did find.
Thomas Wicks  birth 1861 Stockton, Durham, England wife Agnes Wicks 1871 Stockton, Durham, England

any help would be great.

Paul

Sorry, I can't help you in your search, BUT that hat  :o :o  I wouldn't want to be wearing that in the wind, and it can get windy in the North-East!!  Sorry   :-*

I'd say it was nearer 1910 than 1900 - say 1908-10 (hair and hat). I also saw the Agnes Wick in Stockton and think it's the most likely as she looks late 20s, especially in the close up.

I did a totally unscientific search on Free BMD and could only find one possible Agnes marrying a Mr. Wicks in County Durham or Yorkshire, 1880-1920. Theoretically she could have married the other male on that page in the register.

Agnes Dover is her possible name marrying a possible Thomas Wicks Stockton-on-Tees Reg. Dis. Sep. 1891.

Again the marriage is sitting on the fence sort of equidistant between Sunderland and Middlesborough.

Stockton's a lot nearer Middlesbrough than Sunderland  :)

Alternative to that one is that she was Agnes Wicks before marriage - have you checked for any marriages for an Agnes Wicks around the broad time period, just to make sure?

The only (Miss?) Agnes Wicks who married in the area 1880-1920 was Agnes WICKS  who married a George Collin (last name)  or Thomas Anderson Dec. Qtr. 1884, Middlesborough.

That would be a bit early, Barry, so I think the one you found in Stockton seems the most likely and fits better with the photo  :)
