was thinking that they [the grandchildren] could have been illigit children of Sarah but maybe not, i wonder if one of the Cook/e girls died early thus  leaving children with grandparents
really think you need birth cert to confirm

The grand kids shown in 1871 are:-

1. The legit dau of Sarah and Joseph Early
2. Harry Lewis - mother unknown, but now seems less likely to be an older dau of Hannah's based on 1851 / 61 and that death ..

A really convoluted approach would be if Harry was the stepson of one of Hannahs sons   ;)

no luck finding Harry post-1881 I'm afraid .... he isnt using Rushall as a PoB it seems in 1891, maybe he joined the army, or emigrated.

I'll also look at 1901 tho ....

Nowt in 1901, but I noticed a Harry J Lewis 20 or so years older in Rushall ..... and looking back into 1871 we see

RG10/1938; Folio: 20; Page: 3

John Lewis 58  Head Blacksmith Rushall
Harriett Lewis 64  Wife Upavon, Wilts
Harry J Lewis 23  son Blacksmith do

he and his Father's are Blacksmiths - so they must have known the Cooks, also Blacksmiths in a small place like Rushall.

Food for thought

of course if Harry was illigt the birth cert probably won't show the fathers name

Newfy - good finding on that one, it does indeed look promising
