Patrick Keogh - b1890 in Thurles
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 21:30 BST (UK) »
Patrick Keogh (link for my information on him) was a member of Casement's Irish Brigade, recruited from Irish Prisoners of War in Germany during WW1. I am looking for more information on him. I have

1890/1891 Born Patrick Keogh Thurles
1901 census living with his family at Stradavoher, Thurles
1911 census living with his family at Stradavoher, Thurles
1913 enlists in Royal Irish Regiment
1914 captured by the Germans in France
1915 joins Casements Irish Brigade in Germany
1920/1921 Active 3rd Tipperary Battalion of Old IRA.
1924 first light-welterweight champion of Irish Defence Forces
He also played the bugle.

I have no idea what happened to him after his return to Ireland. Someone of GenesReunited has him on their tree, but are not opening posts, so membership there must have lapsed

Patrick Keogh who lived in Stradavoher arrived in New York on 27th November 1927.
His father, James, Patrick's wife Mary E and Patrick's 12 year old daughter Mary K joined him in New York on 10th June 1928.  Does not seem to add up somehow. The Stradavoher Thurles Patrick Keogh was born probably in 1892. Patrick's wife was from Ballysax County Kildare.

Thanks you for your posts on him.

The question I would like to ask you is whether you know for sure that this is the man in Casements Irish Brigade, or whether he could be just one of a number of Patrick Keoghs from that part of Top ?

I was making the argument against it being Patrick Keogh from Stradavoher Thurles. Your Patrick Keogh joined Casement's brigade in 1915, my Patrick Keogh was married in Thurles in 1915. Your Patrick gave his address as Church Street Thurles. There is no Church Street in Thurles but there is one in Tipperary Town. Sgt. Major Keogh states  on Keogh from Thurles that his age does not fit the roll book. There was a Patrick Keogh born in Cashel 1896, one in Tipperary in 1895 and another in Thurles 1898. I am guessing that he is either the Keogh registered in Cashel or in Tipperary Town. There was a Patrick Keogh in prison in Clonmel in 1909 for 'Riotous'. He was aged 15 and it gives his address as Thurles.
