Looking for ELTHAMs in Steventon
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 16:13 BST (UK) »
Richard Eltham married Elizabeth (Betty) Brooks in Steventon on 20 Oct 1765.
I have found the baptism dates of 9 children for the couple - John, Mary, Job, Thomas, Elizabeth, Robert, Martha, Richard and Sarah. There is a larger gap between Job (28 May 1769) and Thomas (9 Feb 1772), where there could be another child, otherwise the time interval between the other baptisms are around 18 months to two years.
Looking at all the censuses (1841 on) for all Elthams born in that area of Berkshire, I can trace them all back to Robert (my 3x great grandfather), there seem to be no descendants at all from John, Job or Richard (jnr). Thomas died aged 10, so I know he would have no descendants. I have not been able to find any information on marriages  (if any) or deaths for Robert's other brothers or his sisters.

Can anyone please help to track them down.

There is another Eltham group from Brightwell w Sotwell, who I believe descend from Richard's (snr) brother John

Thank you
I'll check the 1841 census for likely Broadshaw relatives.

It would be sad to think that out of 9 children, only Robert lived long enough to marry and have a family.
