Are you saying that the local church register does NOT note his age, or the names of his parents?   What was the Rev'd's name, and the denomination.

So it seems that only ONE parish register has been consulted.    The clergy were actually required to obtain the rest of the details.   They were not forwarding that information to the civil authorities, but they were recording it in their own registers.  So, it may well be possible that there's a further register that has not yet been inspected.

I actually have an ancestor who was married according to Presbyterian rites at Armidale, in the 1860s.   From my notes I can see that I was able to obtain the details from the church register, so I was able to transcribe the info given to the clergy at the time, and that info definitely included the then age of both the bride and the groom, their usual addresses, their then ages, their places of birth, and their respective parents details.    In fact, the groom's father is noted as giving consent for the groom to marry (he was not yet 21 years of age).    This was from my own 'old' research, back in the late 1970s, and I went to Armidale specifically to access the records.

Cheers,  JM

No my connection to the Farmer family is through Joseph Charter. The children of William & Anne Charter are on William's death certificate information provided by wife Anne - Mary Jane*;Priscilla*; William* Priscilla 27; William 24; Anne* ; Peter*; Peter 19; James 17; Catherine*; Joseph 13.
*all deceased in 1860. I have researched all the children but cannot find James. James was a witness to his father death along with John Cave (son-in-law) & brother Joseph. Thanks, Eleanora.

Eleanore,
James Henry Charters born 12 Feb 1885 at Bald Hills,NSW is my wife's grandfather, and we have his life until his death in 1975.James and his wife,Dorothy, had seven children and many grandchildren, and a lovely touch of irony is that his great grandson shares his birth date,150 years apart.

Eric that certainly will be an extra special birthday celebration. James Henry being born at Bald Hill was possibly before Joseph selected at Guy Fawkes which is now called Ebor and is on the Grafton/Armidale Road. I have read in a history of the area William Henry Farmer selected first and Joseph Charters a little later taking up land behind William Henry Farmer's.
My connection is through Joseph's sister Mary Jane Charters whose husband was John Cave. The only person I have not been able to locate is Joseph & Mary Jane's brother James.
