It doesn't look like I'll be going this week, still not heard back from where his grave is located  :-\ I don't know who else to ask. Anyone have any ideas?

Deaths of prisoners in custody are usually well documented in any surviving prison records.

In this case, the death and inquest will probably be referred to in the Governor's Journal for Portland Prison (National Archives, PCOM 2/364, covering 1872-1875). This is not online, so you would have to visit Kew yourself, or have someone go on your behalf.

Thanks Nanny Jan I did email them last week at (central@thecct.org.uk) the email address from the bottom of the page. Hopefully I'll get a reply in time.

Thanks Bookbox I already have his death cert, and news paper article regarding his death. I am now looking for the plot number of his grave so I can pay my respects when I visit this week.

I attended a talk by the North Dorset Coroner some years ago, he told of a batch of Dorset Coroner's records that were found in a skip, I have no idea what area or time period they covered, a family historian himself he took them into his care.
