Kimber family of Sapperton, Circencester and Nth / Sth Cerney
« on: Wednesday 12 March 14 06:10 GMT (UK) »
hello there....

having a few probs on some research......

firstly I need to know , apart from entries on fs.o is there complete transcripts of Cirencester available as some of the early structuring pre 1850 seems to be awol..........

next Sapperton coverage on fso is showing marriages around 1815 and around period but no christenings.....    I am missing in particular one Richard [1815], William [1815] and one Edmund [1817].......    as indicated by numerous census of 41 & 51......... and if memory serves me well I had trouble once before trying to find Sapperton for Shergold entries...........

next issue is North & South Cerney records seemed to be intertwined for the Kimber family of William & Esther with some christenings appearing as written for both N & S whereas some are written for one or tother.......    Is this common for Cerney??????

I am having difficulties finding many death or burial references pre 1837 for GLS.... have these been transcribed or still lurking in a cupboard......    as the only ones I am finding are non conforms for Bristol.....

Next prob is that apart from probate references for Bristol for which I have the complete set of pdfs i am not seeing much for Cirencester or other places in GLS  ...where is the indexing for them kept please..?

If anyone does have discs for any of the places in this post..... I would appreciate a comphrehensive list of Kimber and variant for GLS apart from those on fs.o   but maybe the list could be used to double check fs.o..........    { pm me and I will give an addie to send that to}

The purpose of my doing Kimber in Cirencester is mainly connection to Shergolds but also because of connection to the Wine & Spirit shop in front of the old Brewery which is now an arts centre...

thanks folk for assistance ......

 :)

Hi fastfushion,
All of the data is readily available at the Gloucestershire Family History Society (GFHS).
Baptisms of the children of William & Esther KIMBER, a Farmer of Sapperton, at St Kenelm, Sapperton from 1813:-
18/03/1813, Richard KIMBER (William was listed as a Yeoman)
16/04/1815, Susan KIMBER
18/05/1817, Edmund KIMBER
07/01/1819, Mary KIMBER
17/06/1821, John KIMBER, born 06/03/1821
18/05/1823, Francis Frederic KIMBER, born 08/02/1823

William KIMBER married Hester PLAYNE at Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton, 5th January 1805, by Licence.

Undoubtedly there are other children baptised between 1805 and 1812, but GFHS Baptism Index only covers 1813-1837. The period, 1805-1812 are held on microfiche at Glos Archives, and I could do a lookup for you next time I'm in GA if you wish. (GA Ref: PFC 282 IN 1/2 1).

I have a house full of friends attending the Cheltenham races and must attend to their needs now, but will get back to you later with regards to your other queries.

victor.......................

thank you very much for spending the  time to do all that material.....   i will add to what i have and see what gaps are left......

ps     there is probably good reason for the nth sth cerney records and I having looked at maps last nite discovered a river.......      and the thames canal is also near sth cerney so i am assuming that branch is related to watertrades of some sort.

the Minchinhampton Kimbers seem to be related to the Martha / William Payne (sic spelling)factory and luckily i have a book of the history of that branch but does not mention the Kimber side.

once again  thx victor.
