The funeral of Thomas Lewis (54), of 1[unclear, possibly 123], Dumfries Street, who met with his death through an accident at the Park Pit (Ocean), took place on Thursday afternoon last at the Treorchy Cemetery. A large number of the deceased's fellow- workmen and friends attended to pay their last respects to the departed, including the members of the Crown of Rhondda" Lodge of the I.O,O.F. (M.U.) Society. The deceased was one of the founders of the lodge and did noble work for the cause. He was well-known in the locality, and had been in the employ of the Ocean Goal Company at the Park Colliery for the past 32 years. The Rev. Dr. Wm. Morris, Noddfa,, officiated at the house and at the graveside, assisted by the Rev. D. Phillips (Ainon). Floral tributes were placed on the coffin from Mr. and Mrs. L. Lewis (Prince of Wales Hotel), Messrs. James Owen, Walter Mitchell, and William Snell. The following were amongst the mourners:—Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis (widow); Messrs. Isaac, William, John Alfred, Leyshon, and Gildus Lewis (sons); Misses Mary, Olwen, Gertie, Maggie, and Annie Jane Lewis (daughters); Miss Sarah Lewis (sister) Mr. and Mrs. Jenkin Hopkins; Mr. and Mrs. Gomer Jones, Mardy (brothers and sister-in-law); Rev. Thomas Williams and Mr. Joseph Williams, Ogmore (cousins); Messrs. Watkin, Thomas, and Owen Hopkins, and William Bevan (nephews); Misses Janet and Sarah Hopkins, Mrs. Elizabeth Bevan, Mrs. Mary Ann Morgan, Glynneath, and the Misses Miriam and Susan Jones, Mardy (nieces).
