Re John Moulden

Burial record (St Thomas's Cathedral, Bombay) shows that he was a "Sergeant on HM pension list", aged 44. Buried 20 October 1850 at Back Bay.

John Moulden marriage to Jane Sherlock 1840 - the record shows he was then a private in the 2nd or Queens Royal Regiment. Jane was a widow.

It might be worth looking at "John Moulden" as a possibility:

Jane Hogan nee Moulden remarried to John Mawhood in 1864 at Poona, India, and they can be found on 1871 Census at the Woolwich Arsenal with daughter Letitia Mawhood (b1869 Hampshire) and Jane's two children from her first marriage John William Hogan and Emma Jane Hogan.  Although listed as Moulden on her first marriage, on the second her father is listed as John Malden.

Thank you for the replies.  I have looked at the fibis site and found a reference to the marriage of a John Malden but further references refer to a John Madden.  There is no reference to a daughter Maria.

James Ballard's father was Charles Ballard.  I could not make out the other signature on the marriage certificate but Samuel Wisbey is a possibility.  He was James Ballard's brother-in-law and Charles Ballard's son-in-law.

I am having a look at the other possibilities mentioned.
