Street Directory Gillingham c1858
« on: Monday 17 February 14 19:54 GMT (UK) »
My Great Grandfather's birth certificate says he was born at Park Place, New Brompton, Gillingham in 1858. He was Richard James Bird, mother's name Alice Bird, father James Bird, I wondered if anyone has access to a street directory for around this time and would kindly do a lookup that might confirm that James Bird and his wife Alice were residents.

Many thanks

No marriage found for James & Alice but I think she was Alice Wenban - daughter of Henry & Mercy

Thanks for replying, I do have details of Alice and her boys from 1861 census onwards, but as you say there is a mystery regarding her "husband" James Bird, she was Alice Sands born c1823 in Hawkhurst, and I cannot find a marriage for them. I have not been able to confirm that James Bird actually existed. James is also listed as father of her first son born in 1856 in London and I was just clutching at straws to see if there might be any reference to him residing in New Brompton, Gillingham where my gt. grandfather Richard James Bird was born.
