,

Did he marry?  A copy of his marriage cert will show his fathers name and occupation.  In 1891 William Lees is a 3yr old lodger so I wonder if he was illegitimate

Hi

I have  a Lees branch in my family - not local, but they certainly are recorded as Lees and Lee on different occasions.

Do I gather as you've been to Whitehaven record office that you've looked in all the local parishes and the newspapers for a birth or baptism?

Best wishes

Emms  :)

It was very common practice in those days for illegitimate children to make up a fathers name when they married so as to appear "respectable"
