Newspapers in Poplar in 1917
« on: Monday 13 October 14 12:10 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Could anyone tell me what papers were published around the Poplar area of the East End of London/Essex during WW1?  I am trying to access archives of 'Fallen Heroes' photos the local press used to publish during the war.  I have tried writing to the current local papers but have received no replies.  My great great uncle was killed in May 1917 in Ypres and I'm trying to track down any photo there might be of him and it has been suggested I try the local newspapers.

Many thanks

The East London Advertiser is a good one. Tower Hamlets Local History Library have a big collection of newspapers for the area. There's a list of their holdings here (pdf file) ...
