Butlerstown to Galveston Texas
« on: Friday 01 August 14 13:56 BST (UK) »
My grandfather's brother (Michael Hurley) and uncles made there way to Galveston TX in the late 1800's to work on the docks loading cotton.  I knew they were there with Whelton cousins.  But, I am now finding all kinds of folks from Butlerstown in Galveston - Regan's, Sullivan's, Kirby's, etc.  I can trace many back to Ballymacshoneen and Shanagh.  I have no idea if they were neighbors or cousins, but they traveled to NYC in groups and made their way to Galveston by train - often boarding at John Hurley's boarding house (2713 Post Office) until they found their own place.  Shortly after the Galveston Hurricane in 1900 (where William Regan's wife and child were lost), Pat Sullivan was made Police Chief.  In the early 1900's, half or more of the Galveston Police Force was from Barryroe...  anyways - curious if anyone else has relatives who made there way from West Cork to Galveston TX.
