Hi All,

I have now had a reply form the 1911 Census Team to my query as to when Glamorganshire will come on-line. Although it says that my query 'has now been resolved', - it doesn't give a clear answer!

'Please accept our apologies for the delay of response - this was due to an unforeseen error.

I am afraid we have no set date for the completion of our records except to say that we hope to have everything complete by the spring of this year.

You can check our blog for updates and news - blog.1911census.co.uk'.

And so Glamorganshire will be 'live' on the 1911 possibly this Spring?

Romilly ::)

LOL...I'll second that ;D ;D

What still isn't clear is whether they're intending to put them on in the order that they have them listed on the site, -

The following counties and establishments are currently not available:

Wales:

Anglesey
Brecknockshire
Carnarvonshire
Cardiganshire
Carmarthenshire
Denbighshire
Flintshire
Glamorgan
Merionethshire
Montgomeryshire
Monmouthshire
Pembrokeshire
Radnorshire

England:

Durham
Cumberland
Northumberland
Westmorland
Yorkshire, East Riding and North Riding

If that is the case, - then its going to be very frustrating waiting for them to get to Glamorgan!!

I remember the 1901 coming out when I had just started doing my tree - I just couldn't believe how far back I got from that. The 1911 is going to be a godsend if my relatives have actually put down their birthplaces instead of just ''Ireland''.

My main ancestors are from Denbighshire, plus my blacksheep who migrated to Glamorganshire so I too am waiting impatiently for the Welsh Census to appear. I have however been successful in finding an English person who married into my line and it did indeed mention his father was from Dublin rather than just Ireland, so that has been very helpful in trying to trace him. Be aware it is very costly to use the census, and however many 'free searches' you do, you can still choose the wrong person. Many place names are also misspelt, especially Welsh ones so something else to watch out for.

Kind regards

Here's the latest update on the order of scanning for the 1911.
(Btw, they're saying 'Summer 2009' for Wales now:-(((
Romilly ::) ::) ::)

'Order of scanning of remaining counties
February 6th, 2009

We thought we’d give you an update on the remaining counties and approximately when they will appear on the site. Please note that the dates are highly approximate, but we prefer to give you a rough guide rather than a firm date that we might miss. Please don’t plan your holidays around them…

The list below is the order of scanning the documents: this might not necessarily be the order the counties actually appear on the site but it should be reasonably close.

The remaining English counties should all be available on the site within two months - the best indication we can give for Wales, Islands and Military at present is summer 2009 but we hope this is more useful than saying nothing! As soon as we can give a closer indication on specific counties and a better steer on Wales, we will.

Order of scanning:

    * Yorkshire, East Riding (with York)
    * Yorkshire, North Riding
    * Durham
    * Northumberland
    * Cumberland

    * Westmorland
    * Monmouthshire
    * Glamorganshire
    * Carmarthenshire
    * Pembrokeshire
    * Cardiganshire
    * Brecknockshire
    * Radnorshire
    * Montgomeryshire
    * Flintshire
    * Denbighshire
    * Merionethshire
    * Carnarvonshire
    * Anglesey'.
