Hello Boilerbill,

You might be able to answer a Windygates question?

I have a death cert for one Jane Harley BROWN (nee LOCHTIE) who died aged 86 in 1914 at Primrose Bank, Windygates (the informant was her son, Thomas C BROWN).  Jane was a 1st cousin 4 times removed of my children.

The LOCHTIE name (a rare one) was centred on Aberdour.  Jane was born 1828 at Parkend, Aberdour where her father was the tenant farmer.  Later Jane's family moved to Muircockhall, Dunfermline where both her father and her grandfather died in the 1830s.  By 1851, Jane was in  Cowdenbeath, she married the lodger (blacksmith George BROWN), and George & Jane moved to Kennoway where they stayed.  By 1881, Jane was widowed draper there.

Jane's death cert is the only mention I have of Windygates so I have idly wondered why she was there and whether Primrose Bank might have been a nursing home or something of the sort.  Although, perhaps her son lived there - I have to admit that I haven't looked for her in 1891 or 1901.

Regards,

JAP

Hi

"Primrose Bank" is mentioned and I lived there, as a teenager, from 1960 to 1965. It is a private house on Haughmill Lane which then led down to the tennis courts (before the bypass cut the lane in half). It was a wonderful house with a round tower in the garden, and of course primroses on the bank, and I made many friends including Andrew  & Raimundo. I went to Buckhaven High.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for that information!

Next time I buy some time on ScotlandsPeople (at present I have credits but no time ...) I'll see whether Jane was there in 1901.

Again thank you,

JAP

Hello Jeans Girl.(Margaret)
I was searching the Internet for information about William Mercer. He was my grandmother's brother.
I just visited his grave at Ramleh War Cemetery.
I was told he was my Grandfather's Sergeant and when he got home he paid his respects to the family and met my Gran .Christina Morris Mercer.
I paid a researcher to find his war records. There are none, believed to be destroyed  (burnt records)
I have a photo of his gravestone. And a scan of the search report.
I also have a copy of his Death Certificate. He died of pneumonia in Egypt it says.(Spanish Flu epidemic I think).
I was looking for an obituary or something on the newspaper archive website. nothing.
I would be interested to know if you have anything. Also if your interested in anything I have, let me know.
I just joined, and seemingly can't PM till I do 3 posts.
Andrew
