Looking for help with the 1901/1911 Census of Ireland please
« on: Monday 08 September 14 13:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,

With regard to the 1911 census, I have found the family I am looking for:- E M Tunny, Winifred Tunny, aged 39, and sons Thomas Patrick and John Martin.  They are living at Cuffs Grange, Grange, Kilkenny.  However when I bring up the image, E M Tunny isn't entered on the form and there is a note at the bottom saying he is entered on Form H (Barrack Form).  I am presuming this may mean he was a soldier.

My problem is that I can't find the image where E M Tunny is entered.  His name is Edward Martin by the way and he was born in 1870.

Moving to the 1901 census,  I have found Winifred (spelt Wenifred on the census and aged 30) together with son Thomas living in the household of John Bourke, aged 70, at Sunville Lower, Ardpatrick, Limerick.  John Bourke is Winifred's father.  Her husband is missing again and I can't locate him at all in 1901.

Can anyone help please?

Luzzu  :)

If in Barracks, he may just have been recorded under his initials, E. T., for example:

and not necessarily be in Ireland.

Also, have you considered he may have been a policeman rather than a soldier?

What occupation did he list at his marriage to Winnifred in Kilmallock in 1898 or on birth certificate of youngest son?

Could this be him in 1901:

If it is him, for details on researching RIC ancestors see:

http://www.royalirishconstabulary.com/index2012.html

http://www.eneclann.ie/2011/07/my-ancestor-was-a-policeman/

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=6087 (this index returns an Edward M Tunny - I don't have a current sub that I check it for you  though)

etc.

Also, FindMyPast has a policeman, E M Tunny, listed on numerous (200+) Irish Petty Session Court registers in right timescale/area.

Sorry

I just noticed that YOUR Edward's wife was called Winifred !

What's the odds ~ both chaps called Edward Tunny BOTH born the same year, BOTH married ladies called Burke, BOTH were military men, BOTH were from Mayo  ??? ;D

Likely 1911 census entry for him:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kilkenny/Grange/Cuffes_Grange/526607/

and now a Sergeant.

Address is noted as 12.1 whilst Winifred's is 12.2 - so it would seem the family are living in tied police accommodation/officer's house.

That one was born 1874, Lowpark.

There is an Edward Tunny, 1870 born Balla, with parents Thomas Tunny and Biddy Mullee  :-\
There is also a Martin with a parent, Edward in Swineford.
