George GIBBS
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 17:32 BST (UK) »
Looking for George Gibbs, he turns up on the 1901 census with his mother Phebe Gibbs in Litchborough, Northamptonshire and then seems to vanish. The census states he was b abt 1884 in Nuneaton although Phebe (or Phoebe) was born in Adstone, Northamptonshire.

Sorry, I'm new to all this  :(
I posted it on 2 boards because my question spans both Warwickshire and Northamptonshire and I wasn't sure whether it could be read by all or just by people who looked at a specific county  :'(

Hi Lemontea

Welcome to Rootschat.

Dont worry about it.  ;) The problem when you make duplicate posts is that people spend time looking for the same information. If you do need to put it on more than one board, it is best to link them so that people can check what has already been found. Or put it on one board and if it is the wrong place a Mod will usually move it to the correct board.

Good Easter Morning.

Welcome from me too lemontea.  :)

This is a bit strange isn't it.

On the 1881 census Alfred Phoebe and 3 children are in Towcester Workhouse.

Phoebe is noted as having been born in Everdon.

One of the children is a Florence aged 1.

Then as found on the other thread in 1891 it seems as though Phoebe is in
Birmingham.  Alfred is with his parents in Daventry noted as being born in
(Preston Capes) noted as single.

Then on 1901 Phebe states she is a widow living with just George in Litchborough.

Both die in Daventry.

Maybe we should be looking for a George Davis/Gibbs.

Good morning and thank you Sandy.  :)
It is indeed strange! More so because in 1911 Phoebe is with Alfred in Daventry and then in 1918 electoral roll she is with George in Daventry. The possibility of course is that there are two Phoebe Gibbs with children of the same name, born around the same time  :-\
The 'Preston' that you noted for Alfred is in fact Preston Capes in Northamtonshire.
We do have a birth record for George Gibbs, recorded as George Davis Gibbs, born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire in 1884, mother Phoebe, and someone else concerned in our 'search' has sent for the certificate to see if that sheds any light on the problem.
I do believe that the George Davis/Gibbs we've found is the one I'm looking for but for a very important reason I'd really love to know where he went after the 1918 electoral roll entry  :-\

Morning lemontea.

The family are on the Preston Capes web site here.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0yx8/

Alfred and Phoebe (Jennings) married 18 Mar 1873 in Adstone, Northants.

What details does it say for George on the 1918 E.R. please.

Okay so on the 1901 Alfred W Gibbs is noted as married living with his Mother
in Daventry.

Therefore maybe looking for other children or George himself in the Town would
be an idea.
