This looks like Henry in 1861, so the 1853 birth registration in Tavistock looks pretty good

1861
RG9/1459 6 6
Whitchurch, Devon
(Tavistock registration district)
Plymo Old Rd

Richard Strike, head, 40, Labourer, b. Tavistock
Elizabeth, wife, 43, b. do.
William, son, 15, Mine Labourer, b. do.
Jane, dau, 11, b. do.
Henry, son, 7, b. Whitchurch
Richard, son, 4, b. do.
Sarah, dau, 1, b. do.

I'm afraid of no ghost

Frankieb,

On A***  there are details of World War 1 Service Records relating to a Richard Strike enlisting in April 1918 aged 17 years and ten months, who gives his address as Perserverance Street, Stourton.  Stourton is a district of Leeds.  This Richard also states that his place of birth was Houghton Le Spring.  He lists his brother living at the same address as his next of kin.

If you don't have access to the service records on A*** let me know.

Best Wishes

thanks tati, cjl and tazzie
No-i havent got access to the army pensions thing-where do you get that-is it on ancestry. I have access at work sometimes for free to most of ancestry-trouble is i dont get time to go on -i would have to go on in my lunch break and i like to eat sometimes!!!!
So thanks for that info. It sounds like it could be him dont you think??? Thing is though, on one of the census it has his brother down as william james strike. I did wonder wether henry strike the dad maybe is named william henry strike and thats why i cant track a birth for him?? Though he is listed on the census as henry his birth name may be william Henry??? Its funny too that my strikes from cornwall are richard and william henry-not the same but maybe connected down the line somewhere.?
Will suggest to the lady that she contacts the yorkshire post too-thanks-i already rang the library and asked if there was anything in the obituary index and she said not.
Think we have done well between us all-cant wait now for the lady to come back in. She started off not even knowing her grandfathers first name-only the last name.
thanks again.
will post on here if i get any news. thanks again

Does it definately say brother for next of kin then??? If they got an army pension does it mean they were wounded in the war??? Does it list the injury perhaps???
