Glenisla OPR - help with deciphering
« on: Thursday 15 May 14 13:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone read the place name that Ann Robb is residing at? Also, the capital letters at the end of the line I have no idea what they stand for although I suspect they relate to Ann's unwed state.
Thanks
Jen

Thanks GR2 with that I found it - 'Shandrew' on the 1862 map - a bit remote. Can now see her parents at Shandrew on the 41 census. :) but not Ann.

Hi Jenny,
Using Freecen website could this be Ann om the 1841 Census
Airlie, Angus
West Brae,
David Davie            40        Farmer               born Angus
Cathrine Davie         23                                born outside Census County
Thomas Scott          16       Ag Lab               born Angus
John McLauchlen       10       Ag Lab               born outside Census County
Ann Rob                  18       Female Servant   born Angus

All spellings per Freecen transcription.

Sorry I can't help with I. L. G. S  :-[

Looby :)

Hi Looby,
Mild panic as I thought if that's Ann she's further from the alleged father of Alexander but maybe not as like Glenisla, Airlie too adjoins Lintrathen. I'm going to see where West Brae is in relation to Tarneybober - home of Robert Fearn - now there's a man I've chased all over Scotland!
