ATTWELL - William
« on: Sunday 09 March 14 04:21 GMT (UK) »
Help wanted with 10 year brick wall.

William Attwell born c1806 place unknown, married Maria Richards 6 October 1823, St Thomas, Dudley. Maria born c 1806 place and parents not known. On the marriage record the witness is Ann Attwell. None could sign their names.
It is not known who Ann is - sister, sister-in-law, mother?
William died 7 September 1844 Dudley.

Who are William's parents?

Is anyone able to check out his death certificate or find his grave?

Could any of the following be related to William?

There is a Ann Attwell married to Stephen Attwell on 1841 census, Dudley.

It doesn't appear that William's parents are named Richard and Elizabeth - no Williams found born to this couple.

I found Ann Attwell b c1810 dying 1st quarter 1881 at Dudley.

I also found William Attwell, painter, glazier, 25 Moreford St, Bath, and Mrs Ann Attwell, grocer, 10 Hot Bath St, Bath, both in Bath Directory 1846.

Ann Harriet Attwell at Quay St, Newport, Isle of Wight 1844 as miller dressmaker straw hat maker.

William Attwell also appears at 41 Minster St Reading in 1848 as last & clog maker.

Thanks for any thoughts.

If it is the correct family 1841 Tipton, then...

Marriage Maria Attwell + William Ince 1849 St Giles Rowley Regis

Marriage Maria Ince + James Williams 1855 St Thomas Dudley

The above ties in with 1851 + 1861 census Tipton Staffs

Re.Ann Attwell (marriage witness)

There's this baptism but (possibly) too young  -At St Thomas Dudley 1814, but... Father Richard

also a bricklayer.

Could Richard + Wlm be brothers ( if correct family in 1841 cens)

H Pat and Jackie and Rosie

Maria did marry William Ince and James Williams. I know these details thanks.

I have the census information for 1841, 51, 61.

I'm most interested in the marriage of Ann to Thomas Farmer.  Witnesses William and Maria seems very plausible. In this case it would appear that Ann might be William's sister or a cousin. Thanks for this - gives me another avenue to follow up.

I cannot say that Richard is William's brother. Without parents I am struggling to put together William's siblings as well, especially with so many variations on the surname.

There doesn't appear to be any other Richards listed down through any of William and Maria's families, so may not be a family name but I won't discount it.

I'll check into the Hatwell baptism and see what comes of it.

I know of William's death but it doesn't help with his parents. Similar problems with Maria Richards parents, Richards being such a common name.

I guess it might be worth while checking out all the other Attwell families in the area - might turn something up. Sarah would be the right age for William's mother and perhaps Mary is a sister. I've not come across the Morris family name as yet in my research but it's another avenue to follow up

Most appreciated your input.
