Joseph Grimshaw 1823 - 1892
« on: Sunday 05 October 14 22:27 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I am looking for ancestors of Joseph Grimshaw born 1832 Farsley and married Sarah Akeroyd born 1823 Farsley and married 7 April 1845 Leeds St Peters. The marriage certificate shows Joseph is a Clothier and father David Grimshaw also a Clothier, Sarah Akeroyd spinster and her father is Thomas Akeroyd a Clothier.
The 1851 census shows Joseph and Sarah living with in laws Thomas and Hannah Akeroyd at Farsley. The 1861 census shows they still live at Farsley with four children Miriam,Israel,Ada and Hiram. The 1881 census shows David and Sarah living at Farsley and 1891 census Joseph living on his own with a housekeeper.

I am interested in searching for the ancestors of Joseph Grimshaw but cannot find any information on David Grimshaw other than he Clothier from West Yorks.

Any other information of suggestions for research would be most welcome.

Kind regards

David

Hi

These two might be brothers of Joseph, in which case it might help find the family pre-1841.

Marriage Register
St Peter Leeds

William GRIMSHAW of full age Bachelor Clothier of Bramley Father = David GRIMSHAW Clothier
Jane WALKER of full age Spinster of Bramley Father = John WALKER Clothier

pawnbrokeryork: I take it you haven't visited www.calverleyinfo.com
After entering site look for the Vital Records Search and enter what ever you need.
Just even entering Grimshaw into surname box gives a wealth of information on the Grimshaws.

I take it the birth date for Joseph is correct, transcribed records show same year as Sarah birth.
[Unable to locate Joseph in 1841 census/birth and baptism record Farsley?]

(You do appreciate the Grimshaw name was very popular, like the Jones's in Wales)

If Joseph and Sarah married in 1845, then I would say an 1832 birth year for him is NOT correct, as he would only be 13.

I se in your title you have put 1823 so maybe the 1832 is just a reversal of the 2 and 3 in error.

The Grimshaw family like others at the time had numerous kids baptised together!
(Still can't find Joseph birth in Farsley)
Global search done of Joseph named Grimshaw's in 1841 Yorkshire! Only 1/2 doz all discounted.
