Passenger Manifest (part of page 2) for Schoohner SYLVIE, 1855
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 22:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I have attached part of the 2nd page of a passenger manifest for the SYLVIE.  She birthed at Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in February, 1855.  I have been able to decipher most of the note written on the left side of the page.  This is what I have so far:
"The master of the schooner "Sylvie" has on board six passengers [.... ........ ...] on arrival consequently amenable under the Col. [?Colonial] Passenger Act". Signed W Ashton, Act[ing] Immigration Officer.

I am after help deciphering what appears to be 3 words.
Best regards
Rob

* i have seen similiar comments on other records, and basically the ship is quarantined due to illness.... i too cannot read the comment portion but assume my comment applied to this vessel....   there may be a newspaper article or government gazette mention of this vessel worthy of investigating on trove..........   that may indicate more about the comment.......

furthering that I would suggest contacting the Australian Maritime Musuem as they often have more info and in the past they have been absolutely fantastic with historic vessels concerning my family history....   it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get a response but well worth it.....
good luck with that
 ;)

Hi "fastfusion"
Thanks for your advice. I will follow up both with Trove & the Australian Maritime Museum as both Hugh Gordon (master of Sylvie) & his brother Joseph (Steward & Cook) were lost at sea in 1857.  Thanks again for your help.

Hi "Bookbox"
Page one of the manifest has a list of passengers & crew.  How would "but no list" fit with that?

I am certain that the 3 words read:
On her deck.

After 'Passenger Act' is added 'Master(?) produced his List' -- so it looks like they eventually found a copy.

Hi all
I searched on Trove and found that she had run onto a reef at Port Phillip in 1855.  She was refloated without further incident.  Unfortunately, nothing else showed for the Sylvie.
I will follow up on all the suggestions for the obliterated script to see if it makes a difference.
