Needle in a haystack. David Williams 1861 and prior census returns.
« on: Sunday 26 January 14 23:56 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for David Williams. Born Pontardulais.
He marries Jane Evans on 26 October 1867 in Llangynwyd, maesteg.
He gives an address of Alma Road.
His occupation is a collier
His fathers name is also David Williams and is listed as a shopkeeper.
He can be found on the census as follows (all in Llangynwyd/maesteg)
1871 and 1881 6 Cross Street
1891 15 Station Street
And 1911 1 Llwydarth road
His age varies giving a year of birth between 1841 and 1852.

Can anyone help find in 1861 and prior. Don't know any other information other than the above.
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't ignore the David showing as born in Pontardulais in 1850 and as the son of a David and Mary Williams living in Llanelly Carmarthenshire in 1851.
HO107/2468/228/22.

Whilst David Snr is himself not showing too well in later years, though he shows as a Labourer in 1851 he could have been left money!

Regards

My grandmother had a bit of a shop in her front room ! I wouldn't just assume that a shopkeeper was someone who had a "proper" shop; maybe they started like my Nain did ..........

If you look at the David in the second message, his age looks more like 6 than 1 in the image for 1851
