Can anyone find Thomas Morris and family after 1841?
« on: Wednesday 02 June 10 20:02 BST (UK) »
Hi

This Thomas Morris is listed in dispositions from the Rebecca Riots as having shot William Chambers horse. He ties up with being Thomas Morris of Tynewydd, Hengoed (living next door to Mary Edmun"t" (Edmund) of Taynewydd, as stated in the dispositions). His wife is Elizabeth and the likely marriage is Thomas Morris of Llangendeirne to Elizabeth Edmund in Llanelly parish on 25 Nov 1829. She is turn is probably the daughter of William and Margaret Edmund of Herberdeg Farm, Five Roads, Llanelly.

The 1841 entry has Thomas Morris (30) - Collier, Elizabeth (25), John (10), Margaret (9), Mary (5), Ann (2) and Sarah Jenka (2) (HO107, Piece 1379, Book 8b, District 11, Folio 23, Page 12, Line 6).

I can't find any definite evidence of any of them in 1851 or later, can anyone else?

Thank you

Hello Roy,

Have you seen this statement? It says that Thomas Morris was a collier, he lived next door to Mary Edmund near 5 cross roads (Five Roads?)

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/CMNAntBeccaPapers3.html

Confirms what you said, but haven't found them in later census yet.

Hi

Thanks, yes I spotted the statement.  I Have managed to find "Thomas Morris pleaded guilty. He was charged with
the same offence. He entered into his own recognisance of £50 to appear and receive judgment when called upon" here http://www.archive.org/stream/rebeccaherdaught00evanuoft/rebeccaherdaught00evanuoft_djvu.txt and http://www.archive.org/stream/rebeccaherdaught00evanuoft#page/222/mode/2up/search/thomas+morris . £50 would have been a huge sume for a collier. Like you I can find no sign ogf them in 1851
