Help to find James White WW!

Can anyone help me to find some information on James White born 1878 in Whitekirk, East Lothian.  All I have heard is that he served on The Western Front in a cavalry regiment looking after horses.

Do you know whether he survived the war?

Yes he did.  I have him on the 1911 census as a coachman at Pitiver House, Dunfermline so that kind of ties in with being attached to cavalry unit.

By no means definite but I was drawn to this chap:
James White
Lothians and Border Horse Yeomanry 1609, 120282 (Dragoons)
His 1609 number indicates he was TF prior to the war.
The L & B were raised in Edinburgh so might be a bit off the pace.

Thanks for that.  It does look promising but then I am an optimist!  Please tell me what TF stands for. 

His parents were Gordon White and Eliza White nee Hamilton.  I managed to find records, Attestation and postings for my grandfather Robert, James' brother.  I do know that a lot of records were destroyed.

TF=Territorial Force, up to 1908 called the Militia, nowadays the Territorial Army.

Is there any indication Robert was TF.

Thanks for the meaning of the abbreviation.

I have looked through the information I have on my grandfather Robert White and can't see anything pointing to him being in the TF.  He enlisted in the Army Ordnance Corp in Paisley on the 2nd December 1915 and I know that he was in Egypt until at least February 1920.  His service number was 034742.

Just realised it is not him I am looking for.

I see that Findmypast are offering a month subscription for a £1.  Would I get any more information from there on James eg his parents names as I know these?

If his service docs don't exist which most don't then FindMyPast won't tell you anything.
You need his service number to progress.
