Martha Hodgen's father was called Samuel. The marriage is recorded as LILLY/Hodgen.

See the problem now- they've put her name as Maartha in the database so when I searched for Martha it didn't show up.

It was, and is, very common for surnames to be used as first or middle names in Ulster, mainly amongst non-Catholic families. The surname can be mother's maiden name or from a variety of other places such as grandmother's maiden name, uncle by marriage, family friend, landlord, local doctor, minister or schoolteacher, etc. The possiblities are endless. Quite often the first name will be carried with it so that James Smyth Hamilton, known as Smyth perhaps, will have been named after a James Smyth or a Mary Brown Smyth will have been named after a Mary Brown.

Not really. At the present time I have several relatives whose first or middle name they are known by originated as a surname. These surnames originally come from-
1) maiden surname of childless uncle's wife (so no blood relation)
2) grandmother's maiden name
3) great-grandmother's maiden name
