MELHUISH of Halberton c1700

I would appreciate any input with tracing my family tree back some more.

William MELHUISH born 1/2/1776 bapt 9/2/1776 Halberton parents John Melhuish and Sarah. Info obtained from the "England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975" record on Ancestry website.

I believe his parents to be the John MELHUISH and Sarah ADDICOTT who married 26/12/1757 in Halberton. Info from the DFHS "Devon Marriages 1754-1812" list.

John was probably the John MELHUISH bapt 15/12/1732 in Halberton son of John. Info from Ancestry website.

Now, when/where this John snr. was born I don't know. There are several baptism records I've found circa 1700. The two most likely seem to be "John MELHUISH born 9/12/1699 bapt 27/12/1699 Halberton" or "John MELHUISH bapt 28/6/1694 Culmstock" as the others are in places quite far away from Halberton.

Can anyone help with making sense of this?
