Hi folks
I'm now trying to find out a bit more about this gentleman. He was born apparently in either Yorks or Lanc around 1853 and came to Australia in the late 1880s. He married Alice Maud MERRY in Qld in 1884.
They had children in Enfield NSW, Silverton NSW, Summer Hill NSW, at the last, Valerie Gladys STANSFIELD, in Moruya in 1894. He died in Moruya the same year, aged 41. I may well order his death certificate if curiousity gets the better of me, but I was surprised I couldn't find any obituary information about him. I wonder if he moved to the South Coast for his health?
Possibly his birth

W. H. Stansfield, auctioneer, of the firm of Stansfield and Douglas, of Herberton, left that town of tin and silver for Silverton, on June 9th. Stansfield (or Stanny, as he was familiarly called) was secretary to the Tinaroo District Hospital, clerk to the Tinaroo Divisional Board, and altogether a good big item in the personnel of Herberton society.
He flitted many a social cranny;
The joke was, many times per annum— Instead of being christened " Stanny,"
He ought to have been baptized "Stannum." - You see, boys, where the joke comes in,
For "stannum" 's Latin, boys, for "tin."
Stanny was the best all-round billiard player in Herberton ; in fact he was a S'tanny-cal demon at it. He was also a demon at eternally whistling, all round the billiard tables, while playing, " Far away, far away "~a ditty that is now likely to be held in affectionate remembrance of the dear departed, by Herbertonians, who will invest it with anew and appropriate meaning.
