Re: Holy Island and baptism records

For Nataz

I've had a chance to have a good look at the Holy Island parish records.  Unfortunately I could not see an Edward Morton's baptism.  There are however, other baptisms as below.

1799 September, Elizabeth 1st Daughter of Thomas Morton, Fisherman. his wife Isabella Patterson daughter of John Patterson

1801 February, James 1st son ...

1803 October, Isabella 2nd daughter ...

1806 May, Robert 2nd son ...

1809 July, John 3rd son ...

1811 September, Thomas 4th son ...

There is a woman called Margaret Morton who has children to a man called Cromarty but not an Edward that I can see.

There is also another Morton family with William as the father and Isabella as the mother.

1771 John to William and Isabella Morton
1775 Margaret ...
1781 Andrew ...

There is also a child born out of wedlock to James Morton and Jane Walker in 1795 but this is a daughter Jane.

The burials include
1804 Barbara Morton daughter of Robert and Isabella Morton 10 years - weakly from infancy.
1806 Robert Morton fisherman 71 years
1811 John Morton Blacksmith 66 years.

I had a quick scan of the marriages to see if they would give any clues  then rechecked the baptisms in case I had missed Edward but to no avail.  Sorry I was not successful with your find - I've included the findings as they may be clues to assist you.

Yours
J.A.

Hi John

I had a look at the baptisms of Straughans for Holy Island.

1811 26th December, William Straughan 2nd son of Edward Straughan ploughman native of Scrammerston by his wife Margaret Anderson native of Belford parish

1815 28th December Thomasin Straughan daughter of William Straughan ploughman of Fenham Hill.

Presumably the Edward and William Straughan are brothers.  I hope this information is of some help too.

Many thanks,

The father is Edward Straughan and his wife is Margaret Anderson, supposedly pub landlords of the Iron Rails Inn, on the island. (from the White's directory 1847)
I have Edwards parents Robert Straughan and Eleanor, also a son; George who became a Tailor. if I can give you any info don't hesitate to ask.
