Potterspury Marriage lookup
« on: Sunday 15 June 14 22:57 BST (UK) »
I am looking for details of a marriage registered Potterspury, I think Wolverton Parish btween Elizabeth Rawes and Edward Fawcett on 18 June 1849.
I would be grateful for as much detail as possible as this couple are marrying in a completely different area to where I expect and I would like to confirm I have the correct couple.
I did post this message on the Northamptonshire board but was advised to try Buckinghamshire.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi

These are the areas covered by the Potterspury RD.

To lookup a marriage in the parish records you need to know which church it took place in.  Unless any local transcriptions exist - you may need to buy the cert

As the link CaroleW has posted shows, the registration district mainly covers Northamptonshire.  However, it's also possible that it could have been a Register Office marriage, in which case the marriage certificate would be the only way of finding the details.

Northamptonshire PRs are being digitised by ancestry but no launch date is known, so depending on how quickly you need the information, it's probably better to purchase the certificate.

You could try emailing Alan or Marilyn to see if they can do a lookup in their Northamptonshire Marriage Index (or Marilyn may pick this up on RC) - http://www.rootschat.com/links/014vf/

Carole
Thank you for your reply. I believe the church is Holy Trinity Wolverton.
I accept I may have to buy the certificate as I am unsure I was wondering if I could shorten the process.

I have already given some information on this topic on the Northants Board.

Quote
Wolverton Holy Trinity P.C.
18 June 1849

Edward Fawcett, Bachelor, Policeman, Wolverton and
Elizabeth Rawes, Spinster, Servant, Wolverton

John Fawcett and Rebecca Rawes witnessed the marriage

Still may get better details from Bucks board.

In light of Sandy's post, you could try Buckinghamshire Family History Society's marriage index lookup - see http://www.rootschat.com/links/014vg/.  It only costs £1 for a single marriage lookup and their database status shows they've Wolverton marriages up to 1902.  Failing that, you'll have to purchase the marriage certificate I'm afraid.

Tazzie
Well well!  it looks as if she is the correct Elizabeth Rawes - her father has the correct name at least. I wonder if any occupations for the fathers were given?
Many many thanks for all the trouble you have gone to, it is exceedingly kind of you.
Thank you also to all the other people who replied with help and suggestions.
Best wishes to everyone
