Doran - Where was he buried?
« on: Tuesday 01 July 14 15:56 BST (UK) »
How do I find out where James Doran was buried. He was born 1877 in Carlisle and died South Shields or Jarrow 1934? He may have been named James Rennie Doran, however, I have not been able to confirm his middle name.

Thanks in advance for any help.

May be worth ordering his death certificate to find the address he was living at when he died. Then you have a starting point for trying to identify a local cemetery.

Middle name is on birth reg
James Rennie Doran
Sept qtr 1877
Carlisle
10b 483

He is James R Doran on 1881 census
6 Davidsons P Carlisle
John Doran Head M 51 Carter?
Slater
Sarah wife 47
Frank son 10
William son 7
JAMES R son 3
Sarah J daughter 1
RG11 5155 131 14

in later census her omits the "R"
1891 he is in Roman Catholic Reformatory School

so if they were Roman Catholic maybe you should be looking for a burial in RC Church

did he marry Kathleen Featherstonhaugh 16 Oct 1818?
again no middle initial

There is this death reg which may be his (no middle name)
James Doran
age 59
Sept qtr 1936 (not 1934)
South Shields reg district
10a 658

Thank you Suz, My mistake, he did die 1936. He was living in Monkton Village, Jarrow at the time of his death. The other information you provided was all correct.

It may be an idea to look for burials in and around Monkton in a Roman Catholic Church.
Have you found Kathleen's burial place? They may be buried together

Hi Suz,
James' wife, Kathleen is buried in Jarrow in a plot on her own. However, I've never been able to find his. Perhaps the next time I visit the UK I will check again.

Cheers and thanks

hi, Alison,

the records of burials for South Shields & Jarrow areas are held by central library South Shields and also Tyne Wear Archives at Newcastle.

As you are not in the country possibly some kind soul in that area could make a search on your behalf.
If you have the death cert, knowing the exact date of death would narrow the time frame to be searched.

cheers
taffie
