Just had a go at resizing, hope its a bit better

It isn't the enlarging so much as the rescanning at a higher DPI (300 dpi)which would make the difference between tricky and lovely!   

She is already pretty pixilated as you can see - it will be worse when the restorers try to work on it.

Well the 3/4 sleeve came out in about 1883, and the bodice is early/mid decade. Can't see much of the skirt unfortunately.

Although it's definitely an 1880s style dress, the hard-edged oval vignette was popular in the 1870s. So I'm thinking closer to early 1880s than mid for a date.

Thanks to you all for your dating opinions and restorations, particularly as you didn't have a lot to work with because of the low dpi   Sorry about the low dpi but as I explained to Wiggy it's a digital image. However I have contacted the owner to see if she can re-scan.
