John WRIGHT c1750 Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire
« on: Wednesday 08 December 10 14:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for any information on my great x 5 grandfather, John WRIGHT.  I am assuming he was born in Scotland around the Dumfriesshire area circa 1750.  His wife was Janet RAE, but I have been unable to find any marriage, birth or death details for either of them.  I do have birth, marriage, 1841 census and possible death details for their son David WRIGHT, born 1784 Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland and married to Jan(n)et BOYD.  John WRIGHT and Janet RAE don’t appear to have had any other children.  I have come up against many brick walls over the last year whilst trying to find more information, so any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

There is/was the following MI in Ruthwell churchyard - but you may already have it.

West Section
David Wright who died 2nd March 1847 at Forest-Park age 62 years also Janet-Boyd his wife who died at Ruthwell Village 16th January 1852 age 62 years.

This from a survey done by a Robert Shannon in 1962

Thank you very much for that Reiver.  I didn't have that information; to tell you the truth I haven't had much luck finding MIs for Dumfriesshire.  Is Robert Shannon's survey accessible online?

Thank you again for the reply.

I don't believe it is.  In the 1960s all(?) the Dumfriesshire graveyards were surveyed and published - 40+ anyway.  I believe that more recently the Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society have obtained the copyright to all or some of them.  I do know that some have been resurveyed and published by them. I expect their website will tell you more.
