My gggrandfather was living at Smokey hall, Rickmansworth in the 1881 census.

Hi

Frank Paddick published a number of articles about the local Croxley Green / Rickmansworth area

There is an article about Smokey Hall, written by Mr Paddick, published (195x?) in the Rickmansworth Historian.
Rickmansworth Museum ( &/or the Ricky HS ) may have more on the subject.

The article is too long to post on RootsChat.(Over 5500 words)
If you pm me with your email address I'll pass you on a copy (of the article)

Next door to "The Sportsman" pub, which is still there, run by lovely people, serving good ale.
[ Does that sound too much like I am known there?   ;D ]

Cheers!

Ok, - I'm with you now Ray.

(I'm in Rickmansworth, & wondered why I hadn't heard of it, - but it sounds as though you already have it sorted:-)

Best Wishes, Romilly.
