John Brennan and Ellen of Castlecomer Kilkenny

Hi,
I'm looking for any information on John Brennan and his wife Ellen, maiden name unknown.

One known child Margaret Brennan born  c.1817-1820?

John Is listed as deceased by 1840 and his occupation was a Collier, Ellen was still living in Castlecomer when their daughter left for Australia in 1840.

My ancestor was Michael Brennan, born in Kilkenny in the 1820's. I'm going to post a new topic and maybe get some more info on him.

It's possible Michael was a close relative of John and Ellen, but of course Brennan is quite a common name.

Let you know if there seems to be a connection

Thank you for the kind offer to find some info on the Brennans, your right about it being such a common name in Kilkenny they are everywhere.  It would be great if you could find something on them I haven't been able to go back any further than Margaret.
PS: Love the photo of the horse he/she is beautiful I used to own horses in my younger days.............many moons ago.

Hi Aileen

A Lynne Sisk is researching a James Brennan who was born in Castlecomer c1815-1820, the son of Martin and Mary. The family were stone masons and moved to New York.
Of couse it's possible Martin and John were brothers, but really it's just as likely they're not as it was such a common name (I should know - my great-grandmothers names were Smith, Brown, Williams and Wilson!)
I'll keep trying to establish any connections and break through our 'brick walls'...

Hi again

In 1755 in Castlecomer, miners had to sign a work agreement. The following 'Brennan's' signed:
-Wm Brennan
-Ned Tague? Brennan
-Jas Brennan
-Patrick Brennan
-John Brennan
-Andrew Brennan
This just proves how common the name was in Castlemore, and those are just the miners and just the miners that decided to sign the agreement.

Hi again CV-S,  Thank you for the updates and sorry that I have not replied until now I have used up my internet quoter until the 23rd and my server has slowed me down somewhat and I have had trouble logging on to some sites, even my emails...........so please don't think I am slack I will get back to you  even it is a bit late. Again many thanks for the updates and yes, Brennan is so common in that part of Ireland and Irish records are not very well kept for the earlier years.

Aileen, it's a shame we can't get some more info (just yet)

For now, I would think it's pretty likely one of those miners in 1755 is John's ancestor, maybe grandfather or great-grandfather. (Especially since John was a collier.)

HI , have you tried the rootsireland site. the index there shows a marriage of a john brenan ( not spelling) with a spouse ellen for 1810.  also 2 index to Baptism/birth record for a Margaret Brenan with a father John and mother ellen -   one record for 1815 the other for 1818...
