Mortimer Sommers/Somers, Hotel Keeper, possibly Dublin & Eliza Fraser
« on: Thursday 26 December 13 12:01 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking the marriage & parent details for Mortimer Somers and Eliza Fraser

Unfortunately I have very few facts to provide  but what I have is:
* Mortimer Somers/Sommers [taken from the marriage of his son Robert Fraser Somers to Phebe Jackson in 1880] was a Hotel Keeper  but the location is unknown perhaps Dublin.
*On Robert Fraser Somer's death certificate his father was listed as Brownrigg Somers however the witness was his youngest son so it is possible there are inconsistencies.

Questions

1. Is it possible Robert Fraser Somers father was Mortimer Brownrigg Somers?
2. What is the date, location and parents of the bride and groom in the marriage of Mortimer [Brownrigg?]  Somers & Eliza Fraser?

A tall ask I know and I have my fingers crossed....

Apologies - marriage of Robert & Phebe took place by license in 1880 in  Roscrea County: Co. Tipperary.  :-[

At the time of marriage Robert was a Draper at Astons's Quay Dublin.

As to Mortimer Brownrigg Somers - other than the name & a reference to Brownrigg Somers as father of Robert Fraser on his death certificate, as yet I have no actual link between the two men.

The record to which you refer Mortimer Brownrigg Somers was 28 years of age in 1849 with a birth year approx 1821 making him about 59 years of age when Robert & Phebe married in Roscrea. So it is possible Mortimer could well be the father of Robert Fraser Somers and a birth record for Robert Fraser will confirm [hopefully].

Thanks so much

If Robert Fraser married in 1880 then he would have been born before 1864 so no birth certificate. To find baptismal record you need to know family's religion and where they lived.

Robert Fraser died as Church of England.  The marriage record states he and Phebe were married by license in the parish church of Roscrea by Curate Richard Bathoe Jones.  From what I understand this means the couple were not Catholic.

Does this mean Church of England?

The 'parish church' in this case would be Church of Ireland (i.e. Episcopal).

Roscrea C of I parish records are available for personal research on microfilm in the National Archives Bishop St Dublin.  Baptisms from 1784-1876 Marriages from 1784-1845 Burials 1784-1875. The archives don't provide a research service.

You could also try the Representative church Body (C of I) Library. They hold a number of the parish registers. http://ireland.anglican.org/information/63
