Searching for 'Blackburne' family Surrey area..
« on: Sunday 09 March 14 11:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I am looking for the family of Blackburne (probably spelt Blackburn) who i believed were living in the englefield area in 1904. The only names i have are Mary and her sister Alice who i believe would have been young women. Alice sent Mary several postcards during this time and Mary was living with a 'Mrs Cooper' at New Cottages, Fetcham Near Leatherhead. A second address around the same time was 'The Gardens' heath Lodge, Bishopsgate, Englefield green, Surrey. I'm presuming Mary was 'in service' and would like to identify the family if possible.. perhaps the 1901 Census may have the family together somewhere in the Surrey area...

Thanks for any help

John

Do you have any idea of what ages Alice and Mary could have been?

Sorry I have no ages and can only assume they were born early to mid 1880's.. I believe Mary was born in April as I've just found one of the cards was sent for her birthday dated April 28 1908..

Sorry not much more info

Regards

John

Have had a look at 1901 Census for Fetcham, it's not too big a place :)
There are doesn't seem to be New Cottages but there is Stoke Road Row of Cottages. There are two families called Cooper. Henry Cooper age 57, farrier, wife Anne age 58. They have no servants at this time, son and daughter in law are living with them. Second family in same road is Charles Cooper, 27, gardener and his wife Georgina and children.
Do you know when Alice and Mary died any little bit of info can sometimes bring in a result :)

That's very interesting, I've checked the dates on the cards sent to 'the gardens' at englefield.. Which date from 1904 to 1905. the cards are then posted to Mrs Cooper in Fetcham. The latest cards in 1908 are posted to Cray Foot place, Cray Foot, Kent..

Have you tried the 1911 census - you can search it on familysearch
https://familysearch.org/search

You just need to put in surname Blackburne & select residence Egham 1911 - 1911
