Higham 'by Nayland'?
« on: Monday 10 February 14 01:05 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a baptism in abt 1817 for a Thomas Johnson who lived in Stratford St Mary and according to the census was born in Higham. Ancestry has an entry (possibly from the IGI) for a Thomas Johnson bap 6 Apr 1817 in Higham by Nayland, which I can't find on the map. Anyone know if these are the same place?
Thanks, clb

A previous thread may help with why 'by Nayland'  has been added to Higham http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SUFFOLK/2001-01/0980750965

That "previous" thread was on Rootsweb - a different forum to RootsChat, and run by Ancestry!

There are indeed 2 villages in Suffolk called Higham.

Higham by Nayland, or also referred to as Higham by East Bergholt, or Higham Babergh - it is on the River Stour and in Dedham Vale.

Higham, Forest Heath - between Newmarket & Bury St Edmunds.
