Burgess of Burntisland
« on: Tuesday 06 May 14 18:54 BST (UK) »
William Graham was enrolled as a burgess of Burntisland on 16 October 1738 according to the family Bible.

Does anyone have an idea of what paperwork would have been issued in this regard?  I am trying to get more information on him and wonder whether it would be worth following up on this.

Many thanks

Nookie, usually receipt of a  "Burgess Ticket". To be a member of one of the burgh trades you first have to become a burgess, this involves paying a fee and getting the ticket in return.
In Glasgow you can become a member of the Trades House, which is now a social & charitable thing, but first you must become a burgess. I think the taxi licensing office takes the cash.
