Glover Burials at Killenshin Cemetery
« on: Thursday 06 June 13 16:07 BST (UK) »
I am trying to see if it is possible to get a photo of a grave marker, if it still exists. There would be 3 people buried in the cemetery that I know of.

I'm not sure if this number is the grave location or not: Section B #67

Samuel Glover - died Feb 20, 1895

Sorry, I hit the wrong button.
The other burials are:

Alfred Glover - died June 25, 1905
John George Glover - died March 1907

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are these burials in Killeshin Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic graveyards?   I am assuming it may be Church of Ireland?  I live close to these graveyards and may be able to get a photo if the headstones are still standing.

From what I understand from another distant relative, the headstone for John George is still standing at least. She gave me what was written on the headstone. He is apparently buried with or near to his son and his brother.

Hi there,

I spent some time this morning and viewed every standing stone in Killeshin CofI cemetery.   I am afraid I didn't have luck locating the grave marker.  Unfortunately, this graveyard and church were a victim of senseless vandalism a number of years ago.   Almost a third of the old headstones have been smashed or pushed over, many face down - including my mother and father-in-laws grave.  Some stones are illigible due to age and lichen.  I assume you got the reference B67 from the Carlow IGP site - but if not - here it is.

GLOVER
Section B-67
Erected in Loving Memory of
Brother John George Glover P.M., P.P.G.S.W.
And Clerk of Carlow Union
Who was called to the Grand Lodge Above
2nd March 1907 aged 45 Years
There is also interred here
His son Alfred who died
25th June 1905 aged 17 years.
And his brother Samuel who died 20th Feb. 1890
aged 21 Years.
***
It is interesting that John was referenced as 'Brother' called to the 'Grand Lodge Above'.  I take that to be a reference to the Masons who had a very strong lodge in Carlow at that time.

Without a map, I cannot pinpoint it exactly.   I will try to contact the church warden to see if they can be of more help.    Alternatively,  if I get time to list graves B60 to B80 and use them as a reference point, I may yet be able to get you a photo of the grave, but please be aware it may be one of the damaged graves.

regards
Ros

Thank you so much for checking for me. What a shame that the graveyard and church were so badly vandalized. Thank you also for the added effort in finding the grave site.
John George was a member of the Masons.
