Jones: Quarry records*completed*
« on: Wednesday 12 January 11 17:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi  !
I was wondering whether any one could help me locate in which  quarry  my Grandfather David Jones (b. 1883 in Pennal) and my Great Grandfather Owen Jones (b.1853  in Towyn , Meirionithshire)  worked.

In the 1881 census Owen Jones is living at  40 Pennal Village and is listed as a
Slate Quarryman .

In the 1901  Owen is a Pauper and living with his family at 54 Cross Roads Pennal but his son  David Jones  18 years of age is listed as a Slate Quarryman .

Any way of finding out which quarry they both worked in?
Any help greatfully received.

My Owen Jones was a slate quarrier. I only know where he worked because I have a photograph of him at work and someone has written on the back the name of the quarry! There are some good internet sites on the Welsh Quarries where you may pick up some info - just google! My rellie later went to work on the Manchester Ship Canal then travelled south to the coal mines.

The two nearest slate quarries I can think of would be Corris , and Bryneglwys near Abergynolwyn.
Owen , Parry , Pritchard, Foulkes  o Llanddeiniolen
Jones, Bellis o Sir Fflint
Williams o Beaumaris
Chambers o Dulyn
Rowlands o Tywyn

Dear Liverpool Lass and Huwcyn,
Thank you very much for your replies and helpful information . Got something to go on now . One day I'm planning to visit the Pennal area and see where Owen and David Jones worked . I'm sure quarrying was not an easy life.
Thanks again,
