John Pope
« on: Monday 21 April 14 07:44 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage of John Pope born at Alton Barnes Wiltshire to Elizabeth ??. The marriage would be around 1820 to 1826. On the 1841 census John was 35 and Elizabeth was 40. Living at Hilcot  North Newnton. I believe she died in 1847 as she is not on the 1851 census.  John died 1877.
Would the death certificate state her maiden name? There was a marriage for a John to Elizabeth Slugg but that is not her as that Elizabeth Slugg had her children's second name as Slugg.
Thanks for any help
Pat :D

Thanks
I guess that I will have to accept that because there is no other way to confirm it. Does it have who his father was? Sometimes the children are named after them. The oldest one I can find is George and I know he came out to South Australia. His sister Ellen married William Bailey and they also came out to South Australia.  That is the line I am following.
Again thanks for your help
Pat

I have been looking at the Wiltshire OPC site and found an Elizabeth Giddings born 22/6/1800. Mother Elizabeth no father. That ties in with the census.  Their marriage was just before George was born in 1823.
